Financial control for creative process companies

Article Abstract:

Jerde Partnership Inc. is a well-established architectural firm based in Venice, CA. Known for its expertise in designing strikingly attractive retail shopping and enetrtainment complexes, Jerde is also known for its urban revitalization work and its success in winning contracts in the lucrative Asian market. As a creative process firm, Jerde maintains a small financial unit whose work is tailored to the firm's unique needs. Thus, its financial staffers are tasked with ensuring that the creative staff are adequately educated about the link between financial controls and company success. Other duties of the financial staff include assisting in client management, monitoring accounts receivable and preparing quarterly financial reports.

C.T. Hsu's Florida-based architectural firm, founded in 1984, has grown into a 24-employee operation, with 1994 revenues of $2.8 million. Hsu's first important project was the design of Orlando's Ran-Getsu restaurant. C.T. Hsu and Associates' client roster includes several central Florida theme parks.

'Bake-off' helps U.S. pick architects for federal buildings

Article Abstract:

In order to award contracts efficiently and to give a chance to small organizations, the U.S. General Services Administration has started to hold one-day competitions in which architects design buildings without outside help or computers.
