Forming professional/educational partnerships

Article Abstract:

Individual management accountants can help improve the education level of accounting students by partnering with an educational institution and participating in activities that can benefit both students and management accountants themselves. They can give presentations to business and accounting societies, fraternities and sororities, and student chapters of the Institute of Management Accountants. They may also choose to teach college accounting courses in a way that applies their professional experiences to academic topics. Another important way by which management accountants can help in forming the direction of the profession is by sponsoring internships and field experiences for students as well as faculty forums and interchanges. Contributing to educational mission statements and serving on advisory boards can also be of great help. Lastly, they can raise funds for scholarships, computer investment and faculty development.

The payback on NAA research

Article Abstract:

Research which is part of the National Association of Accountants' (NAA) 'Bold Step' research series links academics and managerial accountants in an effort to bridge the difference between accounting information needs in the new manufacturing environment and more traditional accounting needs. Cooperation between NAA members and academics is seen as critical in meeting accounting information needs. Research teams involved in the Bold Step program have been giving presentations around the US at NAA chapter technical meetings in states such as Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Colorado, Florida, and California.
