Fred Schwartz, "original manager."

Article Abstract:

There are several steps in avoiding miscommunication in project management. Four types of responses in verbal communication are described by experts, of which two are considered ineffective, namely, advising responses which often stagnates the growth of the person asking for advice and deflecting in which empathizing usually occurs. The two more effective responses are probing wherein a better understanding of the context is achieved and reflective in which a correct understanding of the problem is ensured by the listener.

When all you have is a hammer ...

Article Abstract:

Project managers want to always stay in control. Tthus, they quantify the impact of future events by making mathematical probabilities based on the information they have at present. They are warned against total dependence on quantifications as these computations are not foolproof. Unexpected factors may come in and can totally change plans made based on mathematical probabilities. Project managers are reminded to always have flexibility in their plans.

If you can't get their attention, go topless!

Article Abstract:

Getting upper management's attention towards better application of project management principles is difficult although it can be done in a subtle yet effective way. One suggested approach is the use of an Executive Session to achieve support from important opinion makers. This is done by first determining potential allies who believe in the importance of boosting project management in the organization which should be cultivated through dialogues.
