Fred Smith: The Entrepreneur Redux

Article Abstract:

Fredrick Smith, the forty-year-old founder of the thirteen-year-old, $1.3 billion Federal Express company, is about to tackle a new area. The project, called Gemini, is going to be a $100 million electronic document transmission service which will deliver information anywhere in the country in just two hours. Smith does not see this business as a big risk, rather he sees it as an extension of what Federal Express is currently doing. Federal Express is already a huge telecommunications company, and he feels that this next logical step to the business will not take business away from Federal Express's overnight service.

Wax on, wax off

Article Abstract:

CHOICE magazine tested 27 car waxes and discovered that almost all of them produce the same results in restoring a gloss to a car's surface. The Kitten Speedshine, $8, is the easiest to use but it is only for new cars. The Mothers California Gold, $27, offers the most durability and works effectively on weathered surfaces, but it is the most difficult to use. Some polishes can leave scratch marks and a haze.
