"Global strategy" and its impact on local operations: lessons from Gilette Singapore

Article Abstract:

One of the misconceptions about globalization is the integration across international operations that leads to the loss of the identity of the operation in particular countries. On the contrary, there is a need for a holistic approach that will tighten the integration at the local market that is inkeeping with the international goals. The experience of Gillette Co in its Singapore operations after the acquisition of Parker Pen is used to illustrate how global success is dependent on adaptation to markets far from the home base of the company.

Efficiency vs. effectiveness orientation of global sourcing strategy: a comparison of U.S. and Japanese multinational companies

Article Abstract:

This has tremendous implications on competitiveness because effective coordination in the fields of industrial research, manufacturing and marketing activities is required for global sourcing to succeed.
