Hammering home performance incentives

Westrum Development owner John Westrum implemented an incentive program in 1993 to encourage his 25 employees to improve customer satisfaction, on-time delivery and budget control. The program encouraged employees to help one another and to look for ways to avert potential problems.

Most Asian economies are growing at a rate of 6% to 10% a year, which presents opportunities for US companies. The biggest demand is for infrastructure equipment and services, but consumer goods are also in demand. Profiles of several firms doing business in Asia are given.

The lighter side of promotions: they can spark interest in products and build excitement about firms

Companies that use unique advertising promotions usually fare better because the promotions cause people to take notice of the products or services offered. Partners can be brought in to make the awards better or to provide more advertising.
