Article Abstract:

Greater competition in health care, increasing capitated fees, and spending on information systems by health care providers have been supporting growth in the healthcare information systems industry. Most of the stocks that comprise the industry rose during the 1st qtr of 1998 as a result, but it is open to question if this can be sustained. These stocks are good investments through the years 2001-3003, but are best suited for the aggressive.

Investment in the healthcare information systems industry should be handled cautiously. A high recurring revenue stream is necessary to invest in this industry. The stock price performance of this industry during the 3d qtr 1996 was not good. Mergers and acquisitions are expected to continue and the equity valuations have declined.
