IOI fans my have hit oil

IOI Corp. is acquiring Business Focus (Sabah) Sdn. Bhd., which owns palm oil plantations, from its corporate parent Business Focus Sdn. Bhd. for $29.7 million, a price that securities analysts consider cheap. Business Focus (Sabah) owns palm oil plantations totalling 13,000 hectares. Securities analysts believe IOI Corp. got the company on the cheap because Business Focus Sdn. Bhd. Amin Shah likely is faced with large debts due to the economic crisis enveloping Malaysia.

Bit by bit, SDS floats under its own steam

SDS Corp., the Perth, Australia-based vendor of drilling equipment for the mining industry, has a tough time getting its stock listed on the Australian Stock Exchange due to the collapse of the price of gold, problems with its prospectus, and the defection of its underwriters. The stock is being listed, and while SDS will be recommended by few brokers, it has great potential.
