Incentive programs in construction projects: the contingency approach

Article Abstract:

Incentive programs with a single objective can be more successful than those with varied objectives. Such finding is a confirmation of the contingency approach which implies that multiplicity brings complexity. Thus, multi-criteria complicate decision-making for a project management team. Furthermore, management quality and project status are factors which should also be considered in determining the success of incentive programs. Cash awards for good performance have also been found to be the most significant component of incentive programs.

Dual-earner dads may be the latest victims of salary discrimination

Article Abstract:

The salary discrimination experienced by fathers of dual-income families is studied. Results show an 11% difference in the salaries of traditional fathers and those from dual-income families. The salaries of traditional fathers increased about 70% from 1984-1989 while dual-income fathers earned only a 59% increase. These findings indicate the possibility that many employers believe that fathers from dual-income homes are less productive than those whose wives are unemployed.
