Indicators of discontinuous technological change: an exploratory study of two discontinuity in the machine tool industry

Article Abstract:

Patent data, relative price changes, bibliometrics, diffusion data and data on new entrants are employed to evaluate the two processes of discontinuous technical changes in the machine tool business. The indicators of technological and industrial changes are explored to determine the extent by which they can be utilized as precautionary devices for technical changes. However, a further study on the two changes must still be conducted to determine their functionality and importance, and how they affect, in the production of machine tools.
