Indonesia's tantalising promise

Article Abstract:

Indonesia, the fourth most populated country in the world, would be a prime market for transnational corporations, but Indonesia's corruption and economic structure and foreign corporations' ignorance of Indonesia's political and economical complexities keeps them away. With deregulation, co-operatives have increased and are more entrepreneurial and open to new ideas. Also needed is a wealth distribution system that turns the poor of Asia into customers with purchasing power.

A lonely voice heralds Indonesian recovery

Article Abstract:

Analyst Alan Carroll predicts that Indonesia will be revitalized. Carroll's predictions are contrary to the majority opinion that the political and economic unrest in the country could eventually lead to deepening problems and possibly a civil war. Carroll believes that some of the leading political leaders in Indonesia have worked out an agreement that would bring the secular nationalists to power, enabling the political and economic environment to stabilize.

Jakarta's other crisis

Article Abstract:

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia, which is already suffering from a severe flight of capital, got a further blow, following the bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. Further impoverishment of Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim nation, and a vicious cycle of economic deterioration, violence and repression, might be the consequences of the bombing.
