Tips on how to use online computer database services are presented. The basic requirements include a personal computer, a regular telephone line, special communications software, a communications card and a modem. To obtain online access to commercial databases, a service agreement or contract has to be signed with a database vendor. It may be necessary to hire an information consultant to decide on the most user-friendly database and, once connected to a specific database, to maximize searching through the large volume of data.
