Trevor Illtyd Williams

Article Abstract:

The history of chemistry and of science and technology were the main interests of former Endeavour editor Trevor Illtyd Williams. He is largely credited with Endeavour's ranking among the best scientific journals, due to his commitment and hard work, his high editing standards and his persuasive ability among eminent scientists to contribute articles to the journal. He was also deeply involved in numerous professional associations and activities involving chemists, such as the Society for the Study of Alchemy and Early Chemistry and the World List of Scientific Periodicals, whose chairmanships he held in 1967 and between 1966 and 1988, respectively. He passed away in Oct 1996 at the age of 75.

An appetite for languages

Article Abstract:

Many people learn foreign languages for business reasons, travel, or out of interest in a particular country. Language classes are often boring and difficult, but there are alternative methods, such as classes which meet in a social situation, books, tapes, and immersion. Although basic language skills can sometimes be learned in a few hours, fluency takes work and dedication. The most important factors in language learning are human interaction and the student's application.
