Insurance cover quandary

Article Abstract:

A report from actuaries Rice Walker discusses the repercussions of the choice-of-fund legislation. The proposed legislation will let the employee select the super fund for transferring the employer's super contributions. As the calculated risks are bound to differ, the insurance premiums are likely to climb up and the benefits such as death and disability insurance covers will become casualties under the garb of higher returns.

Funds merger raises questions of style

Financial planners are wary of the pending $51-billion funds and insurance merger between Lend Lease/MLC and National Mutual. Some believe that the distinctive investment styles of the two companies are incompatible. MLC uses outside managers for most of its funds, while National Mutual manages its funds in-house. Historically, National Mutual's performance outranks MLC's.

A tale of disarray at HIH

Article Abstract:

In a report for the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority on the collapse of HIH Insurance, it was found that the company began its fall in its last few years and was heavily wasting money. Many are now questioning HIH's accounting tactics and other business strategies.
