Integrating neural networks and semi-Markov processes for automated knowledge acquisition: an application to real-time scheduling

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to evaluate the integration of computer simulation, semi-Markov optimization and artificial neural networks (ANN) for managing automated knowledge acquisition in real-time scheduling. The integration is based on the effectivity of operations research and ANN in information management systems. Results show that the integrated system functions better than human experts and ANN systems alone.

Optimal selection strategy for the group interview problem

Article Abstract:

An optimal selection strategy is presented for the group interview problem, a more generalized type of the secretary problem or sequential evaluation and selection problem. The approach, based on a proposed heuristic solution algorithm, is said to maximize the probability of selecting the best alternative or winning. A Monte Carlo simulation is used to evaluate the procedure experimentally.
