Internet industry

Article Abstract:

The Internet remains the hottest stock market sector in late 1999 with expenditures in this segment expected to exceed $500 bil in the year compared to $300 bil in 1998. Electronic commerce sales are forecast to be greater than $12 bil in the 1999 holiday shopping season, and other forms of electronic commerce, such as online stock trading, are increasing, as well, although competition is tough. There are many stock choices for short-term investments in this industry, but selections for the next three to five years are more difficult to make.

Internet industry

Article Abstract:

Internet industry stocks are expected to remain volatile in 1998. Investors have favored the few initial public offerings made by Web-based companies because of the high price/earnings ratios. However, no Internet stocks have solid timeliness rankings because of their relatively short trading histories. Internet stocks are suitable for risk-tolerant or aggressive strategies.

Computer software and services industry

Article Abstract:

The computer software and services industry will remain strong in 1998 despite the Asian financial crisis. Although sales to this area may slow, demand in Europe should compensate. The pending acquisition of Computer Science Corp. by Computer Associates is significant, as it would create a huge entity with $11 billion in annual revenues.
