Investors buoyed by rates talk

Article Abstract:

The United States Federal Reserve Board (Fed) may slightly raise interest rates, causing both Australian and United States investors to return to considering rate-sensitive companies. An interest rate increase of 0.25% would cool the market and prevent inflation caused by overspending. If the Fed raises interest rates, it is simply catching up with the bond market, which is determined by market forces. Australia's 10-year bond yield has been as high as 6.3%; in late 1998, it was below 5%. The Reserve Bank of Australia will make no monetary adjustments if inflation is controlled.
