Laid-back approach gets results

Article Abstract:

Harry Hodge combined his dream of selling clothes and going surfing with his French surf and snowboard apparel-maker Quicksilver Europe. The company has increased sales 20-30% every year since 1992. Selective distribution is key, with only 5% of sales coming from department stores, with the rest from specialty retailers. Hodge keeps the advertising budget low at 5% of total sales. France accounts for 57% of Quicksilver's turnover. Hodge plans next to focus on Scandinavian and German markets.
