Lean production practices: international comparisons in the auto components industry

Article Abstract:

The process discipline and control aspects of lean production management are more important to high performance than people-oriented aspects such as team-working. British automotive components manufacturers perform poorly in comparison with other developed countries such as Japan and Sweden, because they ignore control-oriented practices and concentrate too much on the management of people.

Systems of exchange

Article Abstract:

A classification scheme of systems of exchange using concepts from network analysis, economics, and cultural sociology is developed. This classification helps to distinguish analytically among qualitatively different types of exchange arrangements and suggests bases from which to develop theories about the organization of markets and exchange systems of various types.

Professor Denise M. Rousseau, in her 2005 presidential address of the Academy of Management Review, expressed a view that organizations might change for the better with the dissemination and practice of academic management evidence.
