Loyalist troops thwart coup attempt

Troops loyal to Venezuelan Pres Carlos Andres Perez on Feb 4, 1992, defeated a coup attempt by rebel government soldiers in Caracas and three other cities. The coup had been led by mid-level officers, without the support of the high command.

Government foils coup attempt

Venezuela stopped a coup d'etat against the government of Pres Carlos Andres Perez on Nov 27, 1992. The coup attempt was made by military officers and members of two leftist groups. The attempt was accompanied by looting and rioting.
