Hong Kong based Hutchison Whampoa Limited took a risk by investing substantial amounts in the 3G mobile phone technology. The conglomerate is on the verge of earning profits from its gamble. The performance of the company is discussed and the management skills of its Australian chief executive Kevin Russell are examined. The consumer goods cum telecommunications equipment manufacturer is ranked 57th in the list of BRW's top foreign companies in Australia.
