Making stakeholder theory whole

Article Abstract:

Jones and Wicks' work seeks to create a conceptual glue that can bind the divergent strands of stakeholder theory into a cohesive whole. In this sense, their work is laudable. Unfortunately, the glue they summon up is not sufficiently strong and fails to accomplish its purpose. A better way to create a more coherent stakeholder theory would be to evolve a model based on the psychological analysis of the ordinary business manager.

The structure of optimal trust: moral and strategic implications

Article Abstract:

The concept of optimal trust is important for firms to understand so that they will not fall into the trap of misallocating resources or miss out on cost-saving opportunities. Strategic choices involve trust and thus, managers who are decision makers should develop optimal trust. Findings on the application of optimal trust link it to improved performance of the firm as well as enhanced relationships with various stakeholders.

Convergent stakeholder theory

Article Abstract:

A convergent stakeholder theory that incorporates elements of the social science approach and the normative ethics approach is proposed. This theoretical view of organizations helps to explain why managers can develop morally sound approaches to business and then ensure that they work. This unabashedly normative view of organizations is supported by instrumental arguments that illustrate the convergent theory's practicability.
