Marketing services are gobbled up, and other tales of agency consolidation

Article Abstract:

A number of advertising agencies and agency companies are selling full or partial control to larger firms, as the acquisition trend continues. In some instances, the acquisitions involve firms that specialize in marketing services other than the traditional creation of print and television ads, as the spending on direct marketing, sales promotion and interactive marketing continues to grow at a faster pace than the more traditional services. One deal involves Lopex P.L.C., a London marketing services agency, that has agreed to be sold to Paris' Havas Advertising for $105 million in cash. The Havas deal beat out a competing offer from the Incepta Group in London, which owns 29.9% of Lopex.
