Managed-care strategies

Article Abstract:

Comprehensive health care delivery organizations vary in the types and prices of services offered. Health maintenance organizations (HMO) delimit patient access to primary care by member-physicians, while with preferred provider organizations (PPO), such exclusivity does not exist. PPOs, however, allow greater insurance coverage to employees availing health care from medical providers within the system. The point-of-service plans contain these characteristics as well as HMO's strict issuance of reimbursements. Managed care plans are the more economical alternative to indemnity health plans.

The Kondratieff cycle is caused by changes in the balance of supply and demand for basic commodities. This long cycle also reflects the interplay between technology, prices, and markets. Organizations must recognize the long-term price cycle and understand the dynamics between key industrial sectors and economic growth. Many economic shifts are predictable in the context of the long cycle. Appropriate marketing responses are given for the various phases of cyclical economic activity.
