Management by Exception: Alerting Managers to Major Deviations from Plans

Article Abstract:

MBE stands for Management by Exception. It is a process by which business operations are controlled by identifying operational deviations. MBE concentrates attention on problems which are truly significant. The alternative to the MBE method is coping with masses of disjointed reports. Computers generate enormous amounts of information to compound the problem. Most of this information is irrelevant. MBE involves several procedures. Among them are identifying exceptions, describing them and notifying the appropriate manager.
