Managerial third-party dispute intervention: a prescriptive model of strategy selection

Article Abstract:

This article proposes a prescriptive model to guide managers' interventions in disputes between subordinates in organizations. Toward this end (a) successful resolution is defined from a prescriptive standpoint, (b) a set of distinctive strategies is identified, (c) the key factors that generally affect success in intervention are identified, (d) a set of rules to govern the selection process is generated, and (e) a decision tree to prescribe the appropriate intervention strategy in different dispute situations is developed. Davis at Massport; "Development is the key to our '80s maritime strategy." (Port Profiles: Boston)

Article Abstract:

Massachusetts Port Authority is beginning a redevelopment program to modernize its cargo terminals. Overall tonnage has declined but Massport plans to recycle through private developers waterfront properties no longer useful for seaport operations. Planned are marketing centers, marine passenger terminals, offices and restaurants. Massport is also hoping the U.S. Navy will designate Boston as one of its home ports.

Chocolates El Rey: industrial modernization and export strategy

Article Abstract:

Venezuelan cocoa producer Chocolates El Rey succeeded in improving the standards of the domestic cocoa industry and found an international market for its high-quality products. Its efforts included modernizing its production plants to remain competitive following the opening of the Venezuelan economy to international competition, and the hiring of a food market research firm to identify potential foreign markets.
