Manugistics set to expand electronic-commerce role; software company plans Web site devoted to moving freight shipments

Article Abstract:

Rockville, MD-based Manugistics Group Inc. has a new organization, a new management team and a new focus on electronic commerce. After several quarters of losses, the company has formed the FreightWise Inc. Web site with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. to serve as a freight shipment clearinghouse between carriers and customers.

Microsoft's new Webware works best with Windows

Article Abstract:

Microsoft is unveiling its new Web strategy, particularly for Windows users, temporarily defined as Next Generation Windows Service. At "strategy day" the company will hope to answer questions about the future of the company and of Windows in the wake of the antitrust case. Microsoft will also feature strides in the extensible markup language, or XML standard for the future as well as the simple object access protocal, or SOAP standard.

Laptop users will soon print while traveling; group of firms is testing service that produces hard copies via e-mail

Article Abstract:

A coalition of companies including Electronics for Imaging Inc., Adobe Systems Inc., Xerox Corp., Yahoo! Inc., and others have developed a new service that will allow users to print hard copies of documents from their laptops, pagers, cellular phones, and hand-helds through e-mail. The service, called PrintMe Networks, functions by assigning a network address to printers in offices, hotels, print shops, airports and homes. The users can then send the desired information to a particular printer or access the information from the actual printing location through the Internet.
