Transmeta's latest setback stirs caution before its IPO

Article Abstract:

Right before the celebrated planned IPO of Transmeta Corp., IBM has decided to back out of business with them. IBM cancelled plans to use an Intel-compatible chip, made by Transmeta Corp., in a new notebook computer it is planning to sell later this year.

InfiniBand is aimed to break data logjam

Article Abstract:

Intel, International Business Machines, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq Computer, Sun Microsystems and Dell Computer have developed a consortium to work on the InfiniBand standard for increased speed from semiconductors. Primarion, Banderacom and Mellanox Technologies have attracted star chip industry leaders and financing because they use the standard for the speedier chips. IDC Corp. predicts the demand for InfiniBand semiconductors will be for more 4 million units in 3 years. And the standard may be found in PCs in possibly 5 years.

Micron executives are set to visit Hynix, explore aliance with Korean chip maker

Article Abstract:

As the microchip world market has become more and more competitive, Micron Technology Inc. executives will visit financially-troubled Hynix Semiconductor Inc. of South Korea to explore a range of possible strategic alliances. The companies, rivals of long standing, will discuss joint R&D ventures, investments and the possibility of a merger. As the world battles economic recession the semiconductor-chip market is plagued by production gluts and depressed prices.
