Article Abstract:

This article is divided into three sections with title of: Portfolio I, Portfolio II, Portfolio III, with charts for each subsection. The charts, each of which list 20 U.S. and Canadian companies, are respectively titled "Portfolio I: stocks with above-average year-ahead price potential," "Portfolio II: stocks for income and potential price appreciation," and "Portfolio III: stocks with long-tern price growth potential."

Industry composite price performance

Article Abstract:

This article provides a financial analysis of 96 industries and includes a statistical table. The top ranking industry for this time period was homebuilding, followed by Educational services, Internet service, and Information services. Defense industry is ninety sixth on the list. Of some interest is that the soft drink industry had been first, but is now thirty second.

Financial stocks and retail stocks benefited from Fed interest rate cuts. The half a percentage point rate cut made investors optimistic that the housing problems will not affect consumer spending. Three stock portfolios suited for aggressive, conservative and long term investors are presented.
