Commonwealth Bank of Australia reports a 24% increase in non-interest income in the year ended Jun 30, 1998, in spite of a large increase in allowance for bad debts. David Murray has fulfilled his promise to diversify the bank's financial services in his six years as head of the bank. However, his plans to become spread to Asian countries must await economic recovery.
