Economic and political developments concerning the countries that have signed the North American Free Trade Agreement are examined. Topics include efforts by the Mexican trucking industry to open US borders, and a US Senate vote for strict safety standards for Mexican trucks operating in the US; Republican support of presidential fast-track trade negotiating authority; Trade Adjustment Assistance legislation, for workers who lose jobs due to company relocation; anti-dumping laws as they apply to Free Trade Area of the Americas negotiations; and a call by Canada to create a common civil aviation zone among the US, Canada, and Mexico.
