National Semiconductor reports $212.4 million 4th-quarter loss

National Semiconductor Corporation announced that it is posting a loss for the 1997 fourth-quarter. The figures met analysts' expectations. The company also said that its orders continued to fall during the quarter. National had cautioned in May 1998 that its revenues would not meet the expectations of Wall Street. The company posted a $212.4 million loss for the quarter ending on May 31, 1998. Its sales also fell 24% to $510 million.

Dell's earnings surge; PC maker says it trails only Compaq

Article Abstract:

Dell Computer Corporation posted a rise in earnings of 62% for the fiscal second-quarter of 1998. The figure was higher than what analysts had predicted. Dell also announced another stock split. The personal computer manufacturer referred to market research in claiming that it had become the number one seller of desktop computers in the US. Dell also asserted that it was ranked second overall behind Compaq Computer.

Intel beats expectations on strong demand for chips

Article Abstract:

The Intel Corporation posted financial results for the 1998 third-quarter that were higher-than-expected. The company's quarterly performance improved because of the strong demand for microprocessors. Intel posted $1.56 billion in earnings for the period ending September 26, 1998. During the same period in 1997, the company posted $1.57 billion. Intel also posted a 9% rise in quarterly revenues to $6.73 billion.
