Networking by female business owners in Northern Ireland

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the differences between female business networks and male business networks in Northern Ireland. The study made use of 204 male entrepreneurs and 70 female entrepreneurs. The instrument used was a modified personal contact network. Discriminant analysis revealed that female networks were similar to male networks. Cross ties analysis revealed that females relied on a male primary contact person, but preferred female networkers for other advice.

European venture capitalists are most likely to finance small business enterprises run by a good management team and which possess reasonable financial and product-market characteristics. While some of these capitalists are concerned mainly with investing nationally, there are also those who focus solely on the deal and those who consistently and instinctively rank the five management team criteria at the top of their list.
