Most of the estimated 5,000 new sports and recreation products that enter the market each year fail even though the $31 billion industry is thriving. Examples of the development and marketing of several successful sports and recreation products are described.

Small firms' road to the Olympics

Many small businesses are paying at least $10,000 to be official sponsors of the 1992 Olympic Games. The sponsorship by small businesses provides advertising exposure and helps promote a feeling of participation in the Olympics.
