The New Forecasting: Art and Seance

Article Abstract:

For years people have consulted their psychics to find out about their love lives or to locate missing persons or objects, but now there is a new twist on the psychic business. Now there are psychic services which are concentrating on the business market. One company called Delphi Associates, is based in California, and describes itself as a network of psychic consultants. They work with individuals and corporations, and use computers instead of crystal balls. They get $100 an hour for their basic service. While some think this kind of enterprise is doomed to failure, those at Delphi feel that business people will use their service as long as it works.

Pay-As-You-Go PR

Article Abstract:

A small Connecticut public relations firm had been getting nowhere trying to compete with other PR firms, until it came up with an innovative idea to attract clients. The David X. Manners Co. now charges clients by the results it obtains - a national television spot is worth so much, a local radio spot is worth less. While some of the firm's clients are very enthusiastic about the approach, others within the industry are critical, and the Manners Co. which has run into some cash flow problems with uncooperative clients, has to start charging a retainer.

A Doll's Office

Article Abstract:

Just as the American workforce has changed, so now there is a company trying to change children's toys. The National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) is working to develop women executive dolls, and related toy office equipment which might help a child better understand the work that their mother's and others do. The group is not looking to replace traditional children's toys, only to add to the variety available, and is now negotiating with several toy manufacturers to make the professional playthings.
