New world order

Article Abstract:

Australia is positioned to be a leader in the Pacific-Asia economy, and two Australian companies, the Australian Stock Exchange Ltd. (ASX) and Computershare, will have a large impact on global sharemarkets. Computershare is set to break the ASX monopoly of Australian share trading with its bid for the Sydney Futures Exchange (SFE), but ASX in June 1999 formed an alliance with financial information giant Bloomberg, allowing international brokers to trade on ASX's Stock Exchange Automated System (SEATS). However, ASX shares fell from $16 to $10 during 1999. Computershare had a turnover of $151.3 million in first-half 1998-99.
