Small business owners looking for start-up funding or money to expand their operations should investigate publicly-funded venture-capital sources. Many states now offer entrepreneurs initial seed money to expand their business. This makes it easier to secure private funding.

Alternative ways to find capital

The recent tight credit market has made it difficult for small business to raise capital. Several alternative ways to raise capital are offered. Among these are hiring a factor, using private placement, and bartering for services.

Commercial finance companies provide needed capital and services to small businesses that do not qualify for bank loans. Finance companies lend money to businesses that have collateral for the funds.
