Offshore Recovery?

Article Abstract:

John Wellmeyer is an analyst who covers the oil industry. In an interview he discusses his belief that the industry is heading for a turnaround. He believes that this is the time to buy these stocks, which are near their record lows. He believes OPEC will hold oil prices steady if at all possible but sees this as a bullish factor that will encourage oil use globally. He is more bullish about offshore drilling companies in 1984 than onshore companies. He does think onshore companies will do well in 1985. He points out that the major oil companies are in sound financial shape. He is also bullish on natural gas. He recommends several companies based on their earnings and projected future price.

Cleveland-based capital-goods manufacturer Eaton Corp. appears to have a bright future in spite of suffering a loss in 1982. This bright future has made Eaton popular with investors. The company has restructured its large vehicle-parts divisions in order to reduce costs. It has also reduced its debt and raised cash via a stock issue. Although Eaton controls a large share of the heavy-duty truck transmission market, it does face strong competition in its other markets.
