On the sequential selection problem

Article Abstract:

An analysis describing the sequential selection problem is presented. Earlier studies applied the problem to an employer's sequential arrangement of applicants for a job interview. It is shown that the selection problem is interpreted as either an optimal search problem or as a discrete search problem possessing a stationary target. The problem can be extended to cover the time value of money. Finally, the problem is extends as a special case of the general ordering problem when discount rate is set to zero.
