Microsoft takes steps to thwart hacker attacks

Article Abstract:

In the wake of computer hacking attacks, Microsoft has contracted Akamai Technolgies to operate backups for the its domain-name servers, which had been installed altogether on the company's network making Microsoft vulnerable. The company will conduct a review of the network. Millions of customers were unable to reach Microsoft's main sites last Thursday and Friday. The FBI is looking into it.

Online music: is is time to rewind or fast forward? Senate committee criticizes record industry, Napster for obstructing process

The US Senate Judiciary Committee held hearings on the state of online music. New disputes have arisen over many complex privacy and antitrust issues between the online music service companies and the sound recording industry. Legislators are reluctant to push new laws, but some Internet executives want a 'compulsory license law' under which recording firms would sell music to Internet companies.

Launch Media forming alliance with other music Internet sites

Article Abstract:

Santa Monica, CA-based Launch Media Inc. is planning advertising sales and content contracts with more than 20 music industry Web sites. The alliance of companies will be named Online Music Group. Launch Media wants to broaden its reach and plans to add even more sites to the group in the future. Some of the sites in the group include PlanetGarth.com, NSync.com, Roughstock.com and TheDoors.com.
