Scholarship that works

Article Abstract:

An optimistic opinion is presented that management scholars can and should have greater impact on decision makers in government and business. One of the greatest reasons to overcome the socially constructed hurdles that can discourage applied research is the immense amount of knowledge and wisdom to be gained, and relevant research need not be far removed from scholars' own research interests and learning goals, with studies providing both basic and applied knowledge.

Public management needs help!

Article Abstract:

Several countries are facing challenges of managing public organizations effectively and of solving intractable public problems that have a strong management component. Two things that need to change are the small band of scholars working on public management who need to connect to the broader world of mainstream organization theory and more scholars in the mainstream organization theory communities need to work on public organizations and public problems.
