Soft demand, especially for cans, is one of the hurdles, both foreign and domestic, that is being faced by the packaging and container industry in 1999. However, the industry is restructuring itself in order to gain top- and bottom-line operations in the future through stronger operating margins and enhanced market share. These stocks are not timely in 1999 and the year 2000 due to weak earnings, but several have good appreciation potential for the next three to five years.
