Palm profit jumps 83%, beats forecasts

Article Abstract:

Palm Inc.'s fiscal fourth-quarter results beat forecasts, with a net income of $12.4 million, up 82% from the same period a year ago. The good results came despite a difficult quarter in which the firm faced shortages of flash memory and liquid crystal-display screens, as well as the entry of new competitors like Handspring Inc. into the market.

Palm's sales miss upside hopes and stock falls 16% after hours

Article Abstract:

Palm Inc. just exceeded fiscal second-quarter expectations on revenue that more than doubled to $522.2 million from a year ago, giving it better results than almost any other high-tech firm. The company expects a downturn in revenue in the fiscal third quarter, followed by a recovery in the fourth quarter. In other news, Palm agreed to acquire WeSync, a firm that specializes in wireless-synchronization technology.

Palm doesn't see operating profit this period, posts quarterly loss

Article Abstract:

Palm Inc.'s shares fell 14% to $2.15 on the news that it will report a narrow first-quarter loss. In the wake of the terrorist attacks and the grumpy economy, Palm rescinded its claim of profit this quarter into a net loss of $32.4 million. Revenue dropped 47%, from $401 million to $214.3 million. On an up note, analysts had predicted that loss of $207.9 million. In response to 3 quarters of losses, Palm has hired fresh blood and will part hardware and software groups into subsidiaries. Palm also launched its m125 model, though rivals Sony and Handspring also introduced new hand-held units.
