Performance of commercial television stations as an outcome of interorganizational linkages and environmental conditions

Article Abstract:

Organizational performance of, and environmental conditions affecting, television stations and their organizational structures is discussed, based upon the research performed on 145 television stations in 25 geographically dispersed markets during a 15-year period. The study indicates that inter organizational linkages can assist in the protection of television stations from harmful operational effects occasioned by environmental complexity or scarcity. However, uncertainty is also shown to have a direct effect on the performance levels achieved by television stations.

Unbundling the structure of inertia: Resource versus routine rigidity

Article Abstract:

Structure of inertia is divided into two distinct categories, resource rigidity (failure to change resource investment patterns) and routine rigidity (failure to change organizational processes that use those resources). A strong perception of threat helps overcome resource rigidity but simultaneously amplifies routine rigidity.
