POOR MANAGEMENT IS LARGELY RESPONSIBLE FOR A WASTE OF ABOUT SIXTY-FIVE BILLION DOLLARS ON PLANT AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE IN 1978. PRODUCT QUALITY PRODUCTIVITY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE ARE DECREASED AND COST INCREASED WHEN MAINTENANCE IS BADLY MANAGED. FEW COMPANIES GIVE SUCH MAINTENANCE ENOUGH ATTENTION AND MAINTENANCE MANAGERS SHOULD BE WORKING CLOSELY WITH PRODUCTION MANAGERS REGARDING EQUIPMENT PROBLEMS AND PRODUCTION SCHEDULES.

An effective information system is greatly needed to serve as a planning and control device. The pharmaceutical industry in India demonstrates the need for a marketing information system. Managers are unable to effectively use the large volume of internal and external data without an information system designed to be effective for planning and control. Charts are included, showing the information flow.
