Product-line management in professional organizations: An empirical test of competing theoretical perspectives

Article Abstract:

The effects of structure on performance and human resource outcomes of general hospitals are investigated, guided by two competing theoretical perspectives. It was found that neither a product-line nor a functional structure was associated with the performance outcomes of service quality and innovation, however, it was found that product-line structure was negatively associated with the human resources outcomes, professional development and the job satisfaction.

The impact of expectations on newcomer performance in teams as mediated by work characteristics, social exchanges, and empowerment

Article Abstract:

A two-month field study of 70 newcomers, 70 team leaders, and 102 teammates in high-tech project teams were conducted to test the newcomer social performance in work teams. The findings suggested that newcomer general self-efficacy and experience predicted newcomer and team expectations, and motivational and interpersonal processes helped link expectations and newcomer role performance.

Newcomer adaptation in teams: Multilevel antecedents and outcomes

Article Abstract:

The study tested a multilevel model of newcomer adaptation in teams using longitudinal and multiscore data from 65 project teams. Results indicated that newcomer performance improved over time, particularly early in socialization.
