Production companies fade to grey

Article Abstract:

The Australian television and motion picture production industry is in financial decline, largely because of removal from brokerage lists and an oversupply of American programs distributed in Australia. Brokers claim the profits are too small for the risk of listing the companies. Beyond International has lost $101,000 since December 31, 1998, and has seen its share price drop to $.090. Becker Group's share price has fallen 72% since 1996 to $0.20. Southern Star Group's net profits fell 48% for the year to March 31, 1999. Barron Entertainment's share price is just $.004.

Ten's fuzzy future

Article Abstract:

Ten Network, Australia's third-ranked television network, needs to expand beyond its core business and manage its capital structure and tax liability to increase its flat share price. Ten's share price is five cents lower than its April 1998 issue price of $2.15. Ten's tax liability is more than $230 million. Besides standard programming, Ten needs to create an Internet business and join the pay-television market.
