Raising taxes in Mexico: President Fox's 2004 target

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning Mexican Pres Vicente Fox's plans to increase tax revenues, as a percentage of gross domestic product, from 11% to 17% by 2004 are examined. Topics include goals of fiscal discipline and increasing the base of taxation by offering financial incentives for those informal businesses outside the tax structure to enter the tax structure.

President Fox's tax reform proposal: passage expected after delays and modifications

Mexican Pres Vicente Fox's tax reform proposals are examined. Topics include proposals to eliminate VAT exemptions, compensation to low-income brackets, cuts in high-income tax brackets, goals of increasing tax revenues, the controversial aspects of the proposal, role of oil revenue in fiscal policy, and predictions the reforms will ultimately pass.

Tax reform affects the treatment of the UDI in Mexico

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the manner in which tax reform has affected the taxation of investment units, or UDI's, are examined. Topics include the history of UDI's, which were created in 1995 as a financial instrument whose value was tied to the Mexican consumer price index, and adjustment of UDI's as it applies to earned interest.
