Repair kit for Windows software

Article Abstract:

CyberMedia's $39.95 First Aid 95 disaster recovery/prevention software is a helpful program that aids users in solving software configuration problems. The program is especially appropriate for the less experienced, since it can correct problems automatically. The software consists of Problem Monitor, which checks for error messages in the most common Windows applications, and the First Aid module, which can monitor and fix 87 third-party applications. The module's other functions include crash protection, support for video, audio, multimedia, and online/network functions, the ability to manage virtual memory and other PC settings and a Support Exchange, which lists information on over 3,000 computer products vendors. The $59.95 First Aid 95 Deluxe allows users to download updates from CyberMedia's Web page simply by selecting the 'Update First Aid' button. Deluxe also expands the number of vendors in the Support Exchange and can automatically connect to their Web pages.

Big picture, low price

Article Abstract:

Micrografx' ABC Graphics Suite for Windows 95 presentation graphics software is a comprehensive set of tools designed to work with the Microsoft Office business suite. The 32-bit Suite, which takes up 85,121KB when installed in the recommended configuration, consists of four components. The ABC Flowcharter creates organisational diagrams, flowcharts and similar graphics. The Designer accepts clip art in various formats and permits users to perform limited editing on the graphics before exporting them to a Microsoft Office application. The Graphics Suite comes with over 30,000 photos and clip art images. The Picture Publisher component allows users to import or scan images into the Suite, then modify them slightly before exporting them. The Media Manager permits users to create separate files for storing work. The accompanying manual is clear and provides examples that help users learn how to use the Suite.

There is still another way to process words

Article Abstract:

Boxer Software's $89 Boxer/TKO 7.0 text editor produces ASCII text, which uses plain characters, numbers and letters, that can be sent anywhere. The formatted text that word processors typically produce can cause problems for E-mail and may not work with other layout or word-processing applications. When first using Boxer/TKO, users specify the word-processing software they want emulated, the printer and the screen color. After establishing the original settings, users need never alter them, but they may if they wish. Boxer/TKO works like a DOS program and comes with a brusquely written manual. Boxer allows users to compile and an undo functions with up to 200 levels. An Edit command called 'Increment' increases a character or number by one, that is, it changes a B to C. Boxer/TKO can handle as much as 32MB of RAM and offers utilities such as Makeindx, Reconfig, Bmac and Hugefile.
