Resignations complete military purge
Article Abstract:
Eighteen of El Salvador's army officers, including General Rene Emilio Ponce, retired on Jul 1, 1993. The officers were responding to Pres Alfredo Cristiani's promise to remove from office those officers who had been involved in corrupt activities and human-rights abuses.

Kim Young Sam names cabinet

South Korean Pres Kim Young Sam selected his 26-member cabinet Feb 26, 1993. The cabinet members were younger and more reform-minded than previous cabinet members under former Pres Roh Tae Woo. Kim selected primarily academics for key positions.
